Calling the Elements is has some of the most compelling lyrics of any song in the pagan music genre. Carole Crowwomyn wrote this song of the elements. The arrangement builds power as the song goes on. Melanie sings verse 1 solo, then verse 2 as a duet with Tara. Verse 3 is a trio adding Marilyn and verse 4 becomes a quartet with the addition of Donna. All of us sang the chant/chorus. You can purchase this song here, track 9 on Crow Magic.
Lyrics:
Deep down, deep into the Earth, my roots go.
Draw up, Earth Mother power, She will help me grow.
Rise up, fill me, give me life, strengthen me,
A mighty tree, nourishing, power from below.
Chorus:
Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Come to me, Gaia’s daughter;
Come to me, Myrrdin’s son; Ancient spirits, mighty one.
Bright sky, eagles take to fly, east wind blow.
Sun rise, far-seeing eyes, blessed sight to know
The path, the song, forever new, like the dawn,
Goes on and on, calling me, shows the way to go.
(chorus)
Fire flare, rising in the sky your fearsome glow,
Deep down, from Pelee’s womb, pushing from below
Toast me, burn me, consume me, the catalyst
For Phoenix flight, light the night, let your power grow.
(chorus)
Life blood, pour from clouds to Earth below
Flash flood, won’t be denied, cleanse me, relentless flow
Shape me, make me, carry me, deep within myself,
The shadow place I will face, what I need to know.
(chorus)
Guard our circle ‘til we’re done.
