Spiral Rhythm is a group of friends that have been singing together for over two decades. They began singing at bonfires, gatherings, and festivals. Over time they have developed a unique sound complete with deep, multi-textured chants and explosive drums. Spiral Rhythm has evolved and changed, but their goal has always been the same-to raise the spirit through voice and song.
The group features: Kerri Upton, Kiki Williamson, Ric Neyer, Jon Skoglund, Kira Lang & Richard Williamson
On Friday, February 11, 2022, Spiral Rhythm lost a friend, songwriter, and voice when our beloved PJ Seale passed through the veil. She touched many lives with her music and her generous spirit, and while her songs will live on, she will be deeply missed.
“Spiral Rhythm brings sacred songs that raise energy and uplift hearts to your event. Fun, friendly and rocking great music, I often find myself scrolling their calendar to decide what festivals I want to attend. I don’t mean to be a fan girl. I just am.” –Belladonna Laveau, http://atcwicca.org Aquarian Tabernacle Church
“The primal music of Spiral Rhythm resonates with the earthy heartbeat of the Pagan soul.” — William Brigley, http://internationalpaganradio.com/
“Spiral Rhythm’s music is some of the most accessible I’ve experienced at any live show in the past five years: welcoming, straightforward, and galvanizing. I dare you not to dance.” –S. J. Tucker, http://sjtucker.com
A vast majority of our songs are original and all of our music is a co-creative effort.
Spirit music, indeed!
“Justice! Equality! Freedom! Autonomy!”
Spiral Rhythm is taking part in the compilation The Red Album: Pagan Voices for Reproductive Rights, and they are proud to lend their voices to the cause. They say: “We are a pagan band with deep roots in our community. Our song, Mother Of, is an invocation of the primal Mother, an invocation for the most basic of human rights. Rights cannot be given, they can only be taken away, and no law should take away a person’s right or access to reproductive care.

Pagans use musical instruments for sacred purposes–in meditation, ritual, or community gatherings. Instruments connect us to the divine, build relationships between people, are used for healing, and to manipulate the energy that affects our reality. Many instruments have been put to sacred use throughout history. Some instruments themselves are considered sacred and have their own …...
Syncing hearts, aligning emotions, building communities, healing, bonding, and affecting emotion. Music–and especially music played in a group–is powerful magic. Drums are used for healing and prayer all over the world. Drums are used to drive away demons and to drive people to the madness of war. Drums can take us into different states of …...
Dance is a somatic experience and community ritual. Dance is an art and a mating display. Dance is small private moments and exaggerated musical numbers. Dance is strict discipline and a child’s first movements to rhythmic sound. Dance is grounding and transcendental. Dance is cultural expression and reaches beyond language barriers. Dance is secular, spiritual, …...

By Kira Lang of Spiral Rhythm Our three tracks on The Red Album: Pagan Voices for Reproductive Rights (redalbum.org) are very different but with the same goal. Hello, friends. This is Kira Lang of Spiral Rhythm. What is the place of music in pagan ritual? I’ll share what my beloved bandmates had to say about that. Kerri Hirsh-Upton and Jon Skoglund have been crafting ritual for decades, as Priest and Priestess, and at times Spiral Rhythm’s shows are in form of a …...
ghost-writer We write and sing songs to celebrate, to express our connection to each other, our community, and the sacred. Music is a powerful means to express Spirit. There are as many methods to writing music as there are musicians: The whole piece may write itself; the lyrics may come first, or the tune; a kernel of …...

We’ve run the gamut since then – live recording, studio recording, side projects, guest recording, a movie credit, and now …...
