boy and girl in forest

Laughing Little Gods

Credits

Laughing Little Gods was written to honor the God and Goddess in their child aspects. Alane Crowomyn wrote the “young god” verse for a ritual in our local community that traced the phases of the lives of pagan men and gods. Alane couldn’t find a song for the stage of “divine youth”, so she wrote one for the ritual. Later, she added the “goddess child” verse.

This is the very last of the recordings we have of our departed sister Donna Pauline singing Crow Women songs. We rescued her vocals on the “boy” verse from Alane’s old computer, and supplemented them with Tara on the “girl” verse. So interesting that two people can sing a duet even after one of them has passed into the Summerland. In addition to vocals by Donna and Tara, there is percussion recorded in Alane’s closet in Albuquerque by Tara and Alane.

This song is track 19 on our album Pantheon: Honoring the Pagan Divine. The whole album is available for sale here on Bandcamp, and this song can also be purchased as an individual digital download. We hope the song will make you giggle like the Divine Children do.

Laughing Little Gods is dedicated to Gawain who has been supported by Donna and many others and now steps into adulthood as Arthur. With our love – Jenny, Tristan, Billy.

Lyrics

Hail the young god, join the chorus
He leaps vibrant through the forest
Peals of laughter, shouts of wild joy
Are the gifts of the divine boy
hee-hee-hee-hee ha-ha-ha-ha (repeat)
ha-ha-ha-ha, hee-hee-hee-hee (repeat)

Goddess child, we salute her
Maiden full of sacred laughter
Happiness as big as the world
Is the gift of the divine girl
hee-hee-hee-hee ha-ha-ha-ha (repeat)
ha-ha-ha-ha, hee-hee-hee-hee (repeat)
