Birth & Baby Blessing Rites

The creation of a new person is such a magical act! For the child, being born is certainly a rite of passage. So is being welcomed into the pagan community that will nurture the child’s spiritual growth: the ceremony known as a Wiccaning or Baby Blessing.

For the mother, pregnancy is a time of transformation worthy of a rite such as a belly blessing. Family members also go through a shift in roles. Becoming a mother or father, a grandfather or grandmother, a sister or brother–all these changes deserve to be marked by a rite of passage, especially if it’s the first time taking on this role.

The Crow Women have several songs that can be used in these rites of passage. Belly Pot celebrates the sacred nature of pregnancy and is a perky song great for any belly blessing for a pregnant soon-to-be-mama. For a Wiccaning or Baby Blessing (parallel to a Christian christening) we recommend our lovely song Crow Lullaby. It is a sweet song to protect and welcome a new child. Another song that works well for a ceremony to welcome a new person into the kinship or spiritual family is You Have a Place Here.
