When a couple is ready to declare their commitment, it’s time for a rite of passage! In the modern neopagan tradition, this rite is usually called a handfasting. The hands of the two people are tied together with some ribbons to symbolize the joining together of their paths in life.
A couple can decide their handfasting or wedding is intended to be permanent. More short-term commitment are common within the pagan community as well. A typical term is a year and a day. Some couples go on pledging a year and a day for year after year!
The Crow Women offer two songs suitable for handfastings. Chalice to Blade and Join Together were both composed for the handfastings of members of the Crow Women. We’d be delighted to share the love and have others use them in their own in celebrations of commitment.
