Alane Crowomyn wrote this song while she was serving in the Peace Corps in Peru, in a village in the Andes. It was used in women’s ceremony with kindred spirits she met there. The Moon Goddess in their Quechua tradition is called Kilya. In the Andes, women celebrate the new moon as a time for the deepest of women’s magic.
This is a song of sisterhood. In English, it is: “I am the moon, you are the moon, we are the new moon. Moon Goddess, in my hands, Moon Goddess in your hands, Moon Goddess we are sisters.”
This recording was created in Alane’s home studio shortly after her return from the Peace Corps in 2014. We’ve preserved this version because it includes the voice of our sister Donna Pauline, who is now among our Mighty Dead. Somos La Luna is track 14 on our album Pantheon: Honoring the Pagan Divine.
