Land of the Sidhe

Out of the corner of your eye, whispers in the shadows of moonlit misty fields and meadows, in the hazy light of our dreams, sunlight on rain bedazzled spider webs in the garden … The unseen world of the Fae – the Land of the Sidhe – is all around us, within us, an ancient part of where we humans come from and long to be.

A natural part of reality we usually overlook, caught up in our human drama, taught from the time we can begin to speak that the other worlds are just fantasy, that magic isn’t real … just a clever illusion.

If you’re reading this, chances are pretty good that you know that magic is as real as the wind on water. As real as the spinning of the Earth and Moon and Stars.

Each of these songs are songs for, about and from various viewpoints into the “unseen” realms … The Land of the Sidhe.

“The Boat to Fairyland” by English illustrator Margaret Tarrant

Don’t Be Afraid

You said to me “The land of the Sidhe
Is just on the other side
Close your eyes, float down the river
To the other side
And don’t be afraid
Don’t be afraid”

Excerpt of lyrics from “Don’t Be Afraid” by Brian Henke.

“On the Way to the Fairy Palace” by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite

The Faerie King and Miller’s Daughter

Faerie tales came from more than imagination … history shrouded by time into myth ….

The Faerie King and Miller’s Daughter
Dancing with the clouds
In a song of wind on water
As the willow bows
Spirit them away

In between Sun and shadow
You can see them dance
Oak and flower in the garden
Spinning in a trance
Spirit them away, forever and a day

Excerpt of lyrics from “The Faerie King and Miller’s Daughter” by Brian Henke.

“Titania and Bottom” by Henry Fuseli

Dancing in the Air

Even Shakespeare wrote about it in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Imagine the foolish actor Bottom who is lifted into Titania’s Bower for a night he could have NEVER imagined…

Shifting shadows seldom seen
In the starlight of our dreams
I could never dance before
I could never move just like this
It all started with just a kiss, bliss
Dancing in the air

Excerpt of lyrics from “Dancing in the Air” by Brian Henke.

“The Fairy Way” by Margaret Tarrant

Where the Hills are Hollow

Beneath the hollow hills, the other side of the mirror, the twinkling of a child’s eye?

Come see the fae dance … don’t be afraid to follow
Follow the drum where hills are hollow

Moonlight, firelight … dancing among the shadows
Follow to where the hills are hollow

Excerpt of lyrics from “Where the Hills Are Hollow” by Brian Henke.

“Fairytale Pathway” by Mevludin Sejmenovic

I Will Fill Your Eyes With Dreams

I am the starlight in your eyes
The magic spell that leaves you lips within a sigh
Within the shadows I am seen
My body is the forest, every color green

My song is singing in your heart
A song of wind on leaves and meadow lark
A web of raindrops in the air
Is it the shining Moon that holds it there?

I will love you any time … Any way you want
I can be anything … I will fill your eyes with dreams

I will call you from your bed
To follow forest roads where Gods have tread

Lyrics for “I Will Fill Your Eyes With Dreams” by Brian Henke.

Jack o’ the Green

Is this song a myth? Maybe a story from before recorded time began or maybe something from my own imagination? Maybe a message from the ancient past?

She found an angel asleep in the grass
His hair red and gold in the sun
She wasn’t the bravest or boldest lass
But thought that he might be the one

So, she kissed him then she told him her name
He opened his eyes and he smiled

He said my name is Jack o’ the Green
And you’re the best part of a beautiful dream
I feel I’ve been sleeping for hundreds of years
Singing a song with the wind

Excerpt of lyrics from “Jack o’ the Green” by Brian Henke.

“The Fairy Lantern” by Grace Jones

Juniper Tuesday

Is Juniper Tuesday a Fae child? Maybe a powerful young witch?

Maybe a human child who still believes that magic and the Fae are as real as the Moon?

You decide…

Juniper Tuesday loves horses
Flowers that bloom in the night
And sings with a chorus of pixies and sprites
Searching through spells in the morning
For one that is perfect and right
One that will help all her horses to fly

Fly away with me tonight, Juniper Tuesday
Fly away, fly away, Juniper Tuesday, Juniper Tuesday

Excerpt of lyrics from “Juniper Tuesday” by Brian Henke.

“Fairies at the Window”, artist unknown, image from the 1950s book, My Book of Elves and Fairies by Jane Shaw

Secret Garden

Faeries in the garden
Faces looking up towards the sun
A garden gnome is laughing
He knows a secret joke on everyone

Standing in the Sun
He knows the rain will come falling down
How does your garden grow
I think I know the key to your secret garden

Excerpt of lyrics from “Secret Garden” by Brian Henke.

“The Moonbeam” by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite

Faerie Tale

As real as the Summer wind …

The faerie Queen is smiling
She has a secret that she’d like to tell
A magic spell … a faerie tale

Together we can fly
Castles in the clouds that we can share
In the air … a faerie tale

Excerpt of lyrics from “Faerie Tale” by Brian Henke.

“Signpost Fairies” by Margaret Tarrant

Dance With the Fireflies

Summer nights with fireflies dancing with Fae lights, the sparks form the fire reaching to join the stars.

Listen to night bird spells in the air
Night wind and stars in your hair
Dance in the fae light, bells made of fire
Sing about love with the choir

Dance with the fireflies

I feel your heartbeat dance with my own
I breathe your breath in like love
Wearing the moonlight, wind on our skin
Forever is never enough

Dance for the fire, dance with the fireflies

Excerpt of lyrics from “Dance With the Fireflies” by Brian Henke.

She Wears a Crown of Stars

A vision, a dream, an ancient memory … all of the above.

The lady of the forest, Queen of the Faeries, Mother Earth. The names do not matter …

Deep within the forest
I can hear her softly singing chorus
Calling me

Completely clothed in moonlight
On her head she wears a shining
Crown of stars

The smoke that rises from her fire
Passion, truth and all desire
Dances in the dark

The magic spell I hear her sing
Harmonizes everything
And on her head she wears a shining
Crown of stars

Lyrics for “She Wears a Crown of Stars” by Brian Henke.

Forever Lullaby

The Whippoorwill and the Owl sing the Moon
The shining Stars call the tune

The faeries as they fly
Listen to wind song sigh
A forever lullaby

Excerpt from lyrics from “Forever Lullaby” by Brian Henke.
