About Kira Lang

Kira Lang

Kira Lang has been dancing, chanting, and singing as long as she can remember. However, she is most well known as a dancer.

Growing up exposed to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and Dances of Universal Peace as a kid created a connection to dance and music that has been a foundation for her spiritual practice.

Although she took years of chorus, it was no match for hip-hop, which became popular when she was in high school. As rap became the ‘power to the people’ medium in the 80’s, it also became her inner activist’s voice.  Sometimes sarcastic, sometimes scathing, sometimes comic, but always speaking truth to power.

Over the years since, she has studied multiple forms of martial arts, traditional and folkloric dances, music, and spiritual teachings.  She continues to be passionate about learning new things, seeing other points of view, and challenging herself to step outside of her comfort zone and connect with others in meaningful ways.

She is currently a member of the pagan band Spiral Rhythm, and teaches belly dance in Atlanta, Georgia.

“My body is my home to live and to love in,
it’s not your business what’s in my oven!
My body is a shrine the goddess gave to me to protect.
You respect, I decide my destiny!”

About her song that will be part of a compilation of pro-choice songs, Kira says; “I am honored to gift a track to The Red Album: Pagan Voices for Reproductive Rights. I was inspired to write Hands Off! Bans Off! as a call to action, speaking out against politicalization of human rights and support the cause of bodily autonomy.  I also hope it helps those who have suffered trauma find a voice, or use mine, to speak up for themselves.”
