About Sydney Michael

Sydney Michael

If Freddie Mercury and Stevie Nicks had a child, it would be Sydney Michael. Hailing from the musical melting pot that is Kansas City, Sydney studied vocal performance and composition at the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s renowned Conservatory of Music.  Combining influences of Classical, Jazz, Rock n Roll and Glam Rock with lyrics that touch the core of the human experience, her music draws from the magic to be found everywhere, in every nook and cranny of life.

She has practiced an eclectic, mostly solitary Craft for over 25 years, always returning to the first and most powerful form of magic in her life – music.  After too many years in the shadows of healing, Sydney is at last able to share the gift of her rich, enchanting voice with the world.

In addition to her solo work (including a contribution to The Red Album), Sydney is manager, vocalist, keyboard player and songwriter for Kansas City’s only all-pagan band, The Crossroad Convergence.  The band will be releasing their debut album, Penumbra, in February of 2023, and Sydney anticipates releasing more solo material in the near future as well.

“I’m gonna be loud and proud
I’m gonna stand up and take up space
If you don’t like it get outta my face
My body is mine all mine”

Sydney Michael was the first one to give voice to the idea for The Red Album: Pagan Voices for Reproductive Rights, and she walks her talk. About the track she contributed to this pro-choice compilation, she says; “My Body is Mine is not subtle or diplomatic. It’s not here to win the hearts and minds of the undecided. This song is a roaring anthem of solidarity, shared outrage and resistance. It’s an unabashed war cry, intended to cut through the noise and remind everyone who believes in bodily autonomy that they are not alone.”
